Our topic this term is - Out and About… with Percy the Park Keeper
Welcome to the new school year and welcome to Class 1.
I am Mrs Trotman a “newbie” here at Berkeley! I would like to let you know a little about me and thank you for the warm welcome I have received.
I have spent the last 16 years at a very large Primary in Gloucester, teaching across EYFS and Key Stage 1. I am so excited to be part of the small, nurturing, friendly community here at Berkeley. I live nearby with my family, two children, my husband and seven chickens!
I will be working in Class 1 with Mrs Hunt, the Class Learning Support Worker and Mrs Tainton.
On Wednesday afternoons the children will have French and PSHE sessions with Mrs Sprosen.
P.E. sessions will take place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. There will be some Wednesday sessions later in the term when the children will be working with the Sports Plus team.
The children have access to water all day so please continue to provide them with a water bottle. They have the option of a healthy snack at playtime, no chocolate or crisps please if you are providing this from home.
You can still opt for your child to have milk but this must be requested via the relevant forms.
The children have been busy impressing me with their reading strategies over this short week. I have sent them home with a book and reading diary today.
We will encourage the children to change their own books as part of our morning work at the beginning of the day. Books do not have to be changed every day and sometimes children may choose a book they have read before. Our aim is to encourage a love of reading alongside key skills. Bed time stories, book talk and revisiting favourites is vital in developing this mentality.
What can I do at home?
To support the learning we are doing in class you will find attached a home work grid. There are 8 ideas which link to our ‘Out and About’ theme for you to explore with your children over the next 5 weeks. Please encourage the children to pick at least 4 to complete. We will hold a ‘bring and share’ session in the last week of term. Completed activities can be brought into school the week beginning Monday 16th October.
Looking forward to all the fun times ahead.
