Year 5

Welcome to Class 5

  • Our Curriculum

In Class 5 we follow the National Curriculum. For PSHCE we use Jigsaw. Each term we have a new topic that touches on each area of the curriculum.

  • Autumn 2017

That’s Rubbish! Our exciting new topic this term is ‘That’s Rubbish’ and we shall be linking most of our learning in class to this and the historical period of The Stone Age. Whilst doing this, we are also hoping to be in and around Berkeley forging some community links and looking at ways to improve our environment.

    Housekeeping information about Year 5:

PE:   PE lessons are on Tuesday (my PPA time) and Friday. Please ensure that PE kits are in school at all times and that your child has a refillable water bottle.

Please label all uniform, lunch boxes, PE kits and water bottles with your child’s name.

Home Learning: a grid will be sent home and put on the blog next week with details of when to bring it in and share with the class.

Literacy: This will be set on a weekly basis.

Maths: times tables will be tested regularly and some homework will be set on ‘MyMaths’ online. A letter will be sent home with login details. Please talk to the relevant teacher if you are not able to access the internet.

Reading: Please encourage and listen to your child read at home. Reading is important as it broadens vocabulary, cultivates imagination and also provides information.

In class we shall be reading Wolf Brother by Michelle Paver and this text will also form the basis of some of our Literacy learning.

This term Year 5 and 6 will be spending an afternoon tidying up our school grounds - collecting rubbish and any garden waste.

  • Spring 2018

Happy New Year and welcome to the Spring Term when, hopefully, it should start to get a little warmer! Our new, exciting topic this term is: Wild Wild West and we shall be linking our class learning to this including the Geography of the USA, 'how the West was won', our class text "Little House on the Prairie" by Laura Ingalls Wilder and even some line dancing!

    Housekeeping information about Year 5

PE: PE lessons are on Monday (outside) and Friday (hall), however, please ensure that PE kits are in school at all times as these days are occasionally changed. A refillable water bottle and warm sweatshirt is necessary on these days.

Please label all uniform, lunch boxes, PE kits and water bottles with your child’s name.

Home Learning: a grid will be sent home and put on the blog next week with details of when to bring it in and share with the class.

Literacy: Spelling and reading comprehension will be set on a weekly basis.

Maths: times tables will be tested regularly and reasoning homework will be set.

Reading: Please encourage and listen to your child read at home. Reading is important as it broadens vocabulary, cultivates imagination and also provides information.

The webcam date for Year 5 is on 30th January and will involve a 20-minute ‘watch’ of the children learning some line dancing and then you will be invited to join us in the hall AND join in!

If you have any other questions or concerns then please do catch me after school.

    Kind regards

    Sarah Fowkes
