    The Roman Army

    Today in history we learned about the size, strength and effectiveness of the Roman army and how it contributed to the expanse of the Roman empire. We were very keen to learn about battle techniques and strategies and look forward to trying some of these out next history lesson with our very own shields (scutums)!

    Science - Forces

    Welcome back and Happy New Year! Today we started our new science unit on Forces and Magnets. The children enjoyed experimenting with a variety of household objects such as a rubber band, toy car, glasses case, pencil case, ball, etc. and wrote down words to describe the way a force can move or change the direction of an object such as push, pull, bend, stretch, squeeze...

    Christmas Party

    We had such a fun Christmas party today! First we played party games in the hall, which included a challenge of making a snowman, reindeer and angel out of PE equipment. Then we watched a film and enjoyed our snacks (thanks for providing!) and finally we enjoyed taking part in a Christmas quiz. Enjoy the Christmas holidays!

    Acting out a passage in Guided Reading

    We have been reading 'A Christmas Carol' in Guided Reading the past couple of weeks and today the children enjoyed taking turns acting out a passage and pretending to be old, grumpy Scrooge!

    In Literacy, we are working on writing a non-chronological report about the muscular and skeletal system - a topic we have been learning about in Science. Today we looked at compound subjects and how to use commas in a list.

    Quidditch!

    We had so much fun at the Quidditch Taster Day! First we were divided into the four houses and then got to fly around on broomsticks, trying to score with quaffles. We added in bludgers, keepers and even the golden snitch! It was so great to do something new!

    Computing - Creating a Storyboard

    Today in computing, the children had an opportunity to plan their animations just like real animators! We were discussed the importance of keeping the storyline simple enough so they could manage to actually create the animation next lesson. They chose backgrounds, characters and planned it out on a storyboard.

    Making 'Bronze' Arrowheads

    The children enjoyed sculpting clay to make 'bronze' arrowheads. We wrote instructions in Literacy on how to make a bronze arrowhead, just like they did in the Bronze Age, so this was their chance to have a go! We will also be painting them bronze.

    Today in science we were learning about bones, why we have them and some of the scientific names for them. We now know why our funny bone is called a funny bone! The children also worked together to create their own skeletons, having to fit them together properly. The foot bone's connected to the...leg bone...

    Outdoor Learning

    We enjoyed the crisp air and sunshine during Outdoor Learning today! The children were very excited to get back into the forest to explore. Their challenge today was to make a habitat for an animal. We learned that a habitat is not just a home, but provides food, shelter, water, everything a creature needs to survive.
