    PSHE - Online communities

    In PSHE, we have been thinking about the positive and negative consequences of being part of an online community. We have been thinking about the hidden risks that might not be obvious and how we can look out for these. We have thought about our right to safety and how sometimes people do not have genuine motives for being part of an online community.

    English - Reading

    Today we went out and enjoyed the nice weather while reading the next couple of chapters of our class text, this will help us to prepare for writing a diary entry next week.

    Art - Sculpture

    In art today we have started to learn about sculptures and what they can be made out of. We looked at some amazing sculptures that were made out of paper. We then had a go at creating a sculpture inspired by Charles McGee.

    English - Contrasting information

    Today in English we read the next chapter of our book. We then used the new information we found out about Ada to write contrasting sentences using conjunctions. We then experimented with sentence structure and the use of subordinating conjunctions.

    PE - Athletics

    This term in PE year 5 will be focusing on Athletics. We have been practicing race starts and different types of races this week. The children really enjoyed taking part in these and it was great to see them all keen to have a go!

    Cycling workshop

    Today the children took part in a cycling workshop. They learned about what to check on your bike before a ride, to ensure your bike is safe to ride. They then went out and cycled around Berkeley on the road. I was very impressed with all of the children I watched, even those that were a bit apprehensive. Well done year 5!

    English - Modal verbs

    In English today, we looked at using synonyms and antonyms to describe Mbe and Ada. We then recapped how to use modal verbs and used these to create sentences to describe how our characters may react in certain situations.

    New book

    Our book for this term is 'Children of the Benin Kingdom'. We will be using this as our WALTER text and as stimuli for our writing.

    Music

    In music today, we worked on body percussion to help us keep in time with the beat. We then practised singing 'The Fresh Prince of Bel Air'. It has been quite tricky to keep up with the pace of this song!

    Spanish - Presenting the weather

    Today we worked in teams to present the weather in Spanish. This term we have been learning how to say the weather in Spanish, as well as using vocabulary linked to the 4 points on a compass.
