Can I explore how fossils are a window to the past?

    Posted by Miss L Heward
Today year 6 looked at how fossils can provide clues to the past. The two main areas we covered were changing landscapes and evolutionary clues. We discovered that whales have toe bones as part of their skeleton which suggests they were once on land. We also found out that people have discovered fish fossils at the top of mountains. This suggests these areas were once underwater.

Can I explore how mental health issues may arise?

    Posted by Miss L Heward
Year 6 have been looking at mental health this last few weeks and how to maintain a healthy mind. We have been learning that when the challenges in our lives outweigh the support available this can lead to a negative imbalance in a persons mental health. They have also been exploring the Actions, thoughts and feelings circle which can make small upsets quickly spiral into deeper issues. They have all been clear on who they can ask for help and support to ensure that when challenges do arise, which is normal, they know who to come to for their support.

Can I explore the meaning of mental health?

    Posted by Miss L Heward
This week year 6 were looking at the definition of mental health. We compared our mental health to a balance scale carrying support and challenges. We thought of some everyday challenges we may face and the support around us that already exists to keep this balance. We also talked about the fact that life throws these challenging moments at us and that this is normal. It is normal to feel sad, angry, frustrated and everything in between, and this is ok if we have the right support system around us. Year 6 learned that it is when people do not feel they can overcome these challenges that mental health issues may develop.
