A huge thank you to year 6 for their amazing efforts on raising £220 for their chosen charities with a cake sale and raffle! They really tuned into what they could do for the wider world and showed a huge amount of care over the whole of the term to plan and execute this charity fundraiser and should feel really proud.

Welcome back to Term 4! Today in English we started a new unit on 'Suffragette: The Battle for Equality' As part of understanding how it felt not to be part of a democracy, half the class were tasked with making up some laws that would only benefit their group. The other half were explaining why this was unfair and using a banner they made to help them.

    English - Macbeth Newspaper Report

    Posted by Mrs N Lawday
Year 6 have been writing a newspaper report after the death of King Duncan at Macbeth's castle. To help with editing their work, we managed to dodge the rain and they read their work to each other and provided some constructive criticism.

    Art - Banksy

    Posted by Mrs N Lawday
Today year 6 found out about Banksy. Banksy is an extremely famous but anonymous British graffiti artist. He keeps his identity a secret and expresses his political opinions using street art. Although a lot of his art is produced in public places, he usually only reveals his after it has appeared on his social media. A lot of his art is done in a particular style which people can easily recognise. Year 6 will be producing Lino prints in the style of Banksy so watch this space!

In preparation for writing newspaper reports about the death of King Duncan in Shakespeare's Macbeth, year 6 took part in a news programme in small groups. They used the information about the incident to have a journalist in the studio and then a reporter on the scene at Macbeth's castle interviewing a witness at the scene. They were brilliant! Well done year 6 - some great interviewing techniques used.

    Class visitors!

    Posted by Mrs N Lawday
This week, year 6 have had some great visitors! (Although I could be a little biased!) My daughter Seren came in to see/help them before she went off on her travels to Australia, so lots of the children were giving her tips on the wildlife to avoid there! But more excitedly for the children Micah the Golden Retriever came in to visit too and the children loved seeing her and she helped a lot of them complete their work too! They are hoping for her to come in again soon.

    PSHE

    Posted by Miss L Heward
This week in PSHE we had a think about what our goals would be for the wider world. We thought about what we can do to help and the children came up with lots of good strategies. We then talked about who we might seek out for help if some of the wider global issues make us feel worried or anxious. Next week it is up to the children to pick a charity they would like to do a fundraiser for and convince the class that their chosen charity is the best option.
