Welcome to Class 3
In Class 3 we follow the National Curriculum. For PSHCE we use Jigsaw. Each term we have a new topic that touches on each area of the curriculum.
Our topic this term is Deadly 60!
Welcome back to the start of an exciting new year! I hope you have all had a fantastic summer; I look forward to hearing all about it from the children.
We will start the year with a topic called ‘Deadly 60’ and share this topic with Year 4. The topic will see us explore and learn about the adventurous life of Steve Backshall and his list of 60 of the deadliest animals around. In Literacy we will be writing adventure stories involving these critters and even creating our own, in Geography we will be looking in detail at Europe’s counties and some of the creatures that reside there and in Art we will be taking a look under the microscope at some creatures to create some detailed sketches. As you can see, there is already lots of exciting learning opportunities, however there is also plenty of opportunity to follow the children’s lines of enquiry.
There are three members of staff in Year 3. I am the class teacher (Miss Franklin), Mrs Hargreaves will be supporting the children’s Maths learning and Mrs Turner will be supporting the children’s Literacy learning. All of us are passionate about your child’s learning and are happy to talk to you about your child’s needs during the year.
Could you please ensure your child has in school:
Water Bottle – to keep them hydrated throughout the day
PE kit – T-shirt, shorts, jogging bottoms, socks, trainers and swimming kit (all labelled). PE will be on Monday and Thursday.
Art shirt – for those creative sessions!
In year 3 the children will be set one piece of Literacy and one piece of Maths homework a week.
Please don’t feel that all homework on the grid has to be completed (unless they are keen to do so.) It would be fantastic if the children could do at least a few pieces of home learning that they feel enthused by and I look forward to sharing this learning as and when it is completed.
The children no longer have a reading record in Year 3 as their reading tends to become more independent. I am a firm believer in the power of reading and encourage it greatly within school. It aids the children’s creativity, spelling and comprehension skills. Your child will be heard read once a week by either myself or Mrs Turner throughout the year.
Spelling sessions will be taught every day for 15-20minutes at the start of the Literacy session.
Continued practice of the 3, 4, and 8 times tables will really benefit your child’s learning in Maths, as it improves rapid recall of important number facts.
I look forward to welcoming your children back to school to begin year 3 and please feel free to see me if you have any questions about this new school year.
.Welcome back to Spring Term 2 This term our topic will be Vicious Vikings which I think Year 3 will really enjoy. PE this term will be on a Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child has their kit in school on these days, which should include, white t-shirt, jumper, short/jogging bottoms and trainers. WOW and school trip dates to follow. As ever, please come and see me if you have any questions, Mrs Franklin
