    BFG Newsletter - January 2022

Hello All! I hope everyone had a wonderful festive break and is now back in the new year swing of things! I wanted to drop you all a quick note to update you on some the wonderful BFG activities we have done over the last few months and also to inform you of some of the plans we have moving forward. Firstly, thank you to everyone that contributed towards all the fund raising events we in the last quarter of 2021. We know that during covid restrictions, it’s been a challenge to raise fund as we normally would and so I commend everyone for their efforts in helping to raise valuable funds for the school during this term. The fact that we have managed to raise nearly £1,000 since we came back to school in September is an absolute credit to everyone involved. We have seen some brilliant fund raising taking place including “Raisin funds”, Two separate days’ worth of refreshment offering at Berkeley Green park run, second hand clothing sales at school and before Christmas we saw another wonderful “Break the rules day” take place as well as a fabulous Deer Trail around Berkeley. In addition to this fund raising, we have also seen the group help and contribute to some wonderful things in and around the school. The BFG organising the Goodie bags for reception parents at the start of term. As well more recently BFG members helping to support Father Christmas on his recent surprise visit to the school! Jingle bells! It was wonderful to finish last term off by seeing so many supportive family members at the Christmas outdoor concert which saw more BFG members prepare and serve Mince pies and Mulled wine. Thank you again to all the BFG members who gave up their time and effort to help serve, and to those parents who came along and contributed towards the event. In other news, we have also seen changes in personnel in the BFG! Alongside a flurry of wonderful new members joining our group, we have seen the promotion of the wonderful Emily Farnsworth move into the role of Deputy Chairperson. Emily is a fantastic ambassador for the BFG and is proving a really valuable asset in our team. Thank you for all your hard work Emily! For those that are currently unaware, the current primary focus for fund raising by the BFG is to improve the Technology offering around the school. After discussing with the school what they main needs are, the school have recognised this as an area that would greatly benefit towards some BFG investment. As anyone knows who has purchased any technology recently for home, this comes with a high cost and so we have a lot of work to do Thank you again to everyone that contributes towards these events and towards the BFG, all support and engagement is really appreciated. We are now starting to plan our events for the next 12 months and am keen to engage with as many family members as possible. Our next BFG committee meeting is on Friday 28th January and if anyone has any additional ideas regarding further activities we could offer, please feel free to pass these onto your class rep, who can then feed this back to the school and the committee. Or of course Likewise if anyone would like to join the BFG itself, new members are extremely welcome! Mark Veale Chair of the BFG

Introduction from the BFG Chairman Mark Veale

I have gladly accepted the baton of ‘Chair’ of the BFG and wanted to take the time to introduce myself.  I have lived in Berkeley for 6 years and my daughter Rosalie is currently in year 3 at BPS. My eldest child (Henry) left BPS this year, having now begun his journey at KLB school. Career-wise, I was a chef for over 20 years, spending 5 years working in London for a rather aggressive chef called ‘Gordon’, before moving back to my hometown of Bristol to be Head chef of Cadbury House Hotel and then later Executive Head chef of the beautiful Thornbury Castle. Five years ago I started a new role working as Head of Technical Sales for a catering equipment company called Nisbets. In my spare time I love playing and supporting football (my team being the mighty Bristol City), I still love to cook and entertain, and have recently become quite obsessed about running. Feel free to follow me on various social media platforms to be bored rigid with details about my latest trot around the neighbourhood. As a positive and enthusiastic person I really do welcome the role of the Chair of the BFG. We have an amazing school and I think by bringing everyone together we can create a wonderful partnership between the school and community and make some money!
